How I Used AI Voice Technology to Create a Rap Battle: President Biden vs. Donald Trump

What an incredible year it has been for advancements in AI technology! When I first discovered the ability to record myself, apply AI processing, and transform my voice into something entirely different, I was absolutely captivated. I immediately recognized the potential for creating innovative and entertaining content using this technology. The inspiration for my latest project struck while I was experimenting with Lalals' Donald Trump Voice model.

The initial idea was simple yet amusing: why not compose a rap verse for President Trump using this AI model? As I crafted his verse, it suddenly dawned on me that President Biden should also have a place on this musical battleground. Thus, the concept of the presidential rap battle was born.

AI Vocal Processing

To bring this project to life, I employed two websites for AI voice processing. As mentioned earlier, I utilized Lalals for the Trump Voice. Musicfy was used for the Biden Voice. Admittedly, these AI models are not flawless, but it's truly remarkable what you can achieve with them. I had to record multiple takes and meticulously piece together a version that sounded reasonably convincing. Even with various takes delivered in different styles, achieving a flawless result was challenging. If you listen closely, you'll notice subtle artifacts from the AI. Keep in mind that this technology is still in its infancy, and I anticipate significant improvements in the future. It's also crucial to try and mimic the speaking style of your desired voice model as closely as possible for the best results.

The Musical Arrangement

The song is composed in E Harmonic Minor, imparting a dark and intense atmosphere that suits the presidential showdown perfectly. The chord progression consists of Emin, Bmaj, Cmaj, and Amin. The primary synth used is a Serum lead, which underwent EQ adjustments and was processed through the RC-20 plugin to introduce some grit and a vintage touch. Alongside the main synth, the track features a straightforward bassline created with a Serum patch, as well as bell and pluck sounds sourced from Nexus and Equator. For the lead vocals, I applied The UAD 1176LN Rev E, followed by Fabfilter Pro-Q3, Soothe2, and the MC2000 for multiband compression. Additionally, Valhalla Room and Delay effects were employed to enhance the vocals further.

This project was a thrilling journey into the possibilities of AI and music creation, and I'm excited to share the results with you. While AI technology still has room to grow, it undeniably opens doors to innovative and entertaining content creation.
